Useful content should be at the core of your marketing

The process of pre-producing and writing a script often begins with questions such as "Who should I interview?" "Where and when should I film?" "What shooting style do I want to use?" "What do I want the viewer to hear / do when the video is finished?" All of these elements play a role in the pre-production and writing process. One of the exciting things about documentaries is that much of it is not scripted. You can not force anyone to say exactly what you want. If you do, you're now making commercials or movies. Your research should lead you to understand that a particular interviewee may have suffered a great loss, and you want them to explain, in their own words, how this loss affected him and his family. You can get to the heart of what you are looking for by asking the right questions during the interview. You can lead your argument this way, but they will eventually describe their situation in their own words. Having a "pre-shot" script will allow you to understand the most relevant facts and stories you need to present the bigger picture you are trying to convey.
